Dr. Velting and his wife Katie are thrilled to be part of the Morton community! While Katie was born and raised in Morton, Dr. Velting is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He completed his bachelor's degree at Taylor University, and graduated with honors from the Indiana University School of Optometry.
Before moving to Morton and joining our practice in 2016, Dr. Velting practiced in Deerfield, Illinois, specializing in the treatment of anterior segment eye diseases, specialty contact lenses, glaucoma management, and primary eye care.
Dr. Velting is currently chair of the Contact Lens and Cornea Section of the American Optometric Association, and past chair of the Public Health Committee of the Illinois Optometric Association. Additionally, he has held adjunct faculty positions at the Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Pennsylvania Schools of Optometry, and is board certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease.
Outside of optometry, Dr. Velting enjoys playing sports, mountain biking, traveling, and spending time with his wife Katie, and two children Henry and Adeline.

Dr. Brian C. Sommer was born and raised in Hopedale, IL and did his undergraduate work at Eastern Illinois University. After serving two years with the Mennonite Central Committee in Southern Germany building a church and conference center, he graduated from the Southern School of Optometry in 1980.
He interned with the Naval Academy in Corpus Christie, Texas, and began his optometric career with Dr. Richard Voller in Pekin, IL. He later moved to Woodstock, IL where he practiced for seven years.
Dr. Sommer returned to Central Illinois and opened Vintage Optical with Susan Colby in 1995. In addition to Vintage Optical, Dr. Sommer has provided clinical assistance to the TCRC Sight Center, is a member of the Illinois Optometry Society and the American Optometric Society, and serves on the board of the Mennonite Relief Sale. In his free time, Dr. Sommer enjoys golf, hiking and cycling, spending time with his wife, Karen, and two children, Luke and Angela.

Dr. Terry Goodale was born and raised in Morton, Illinois, where he attended local schools before earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa and his Doctorate of Optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry. He completed clinical rotations at several renowned facilities, including the David Grant Medical Center in California and New Eyes in Las Vegas.

Dr. Goodale began his optometric career in Canton, IL, later practicing in Peoria, Washington, and Pekin. In 2024, he returned to his hometown to join Vintage Optical, where he provides primary care optometry, including the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease.
In his free time, Dr. Goodale enjoys golfing, biking, camping, and spending time with his wife and four children. He is an active member of Summit Point Church and is proud to serve the Morton community.

Ophthalmic Technician / Patient Communication
Lynne was born in Portland Oregan, and moved to Roanoke , IL in the first grade. She was a licensed insurance agent for 15 years. She then began working as an opthalmic technician in 2000 and became a certified paraoptometric in 2010. She joined Vintage Optical in February 2019.
As a cancer survivor, she has enjoyed volunteering on the Susan G. Komen committee. In her spare time, she sings in her church choir, loves travelling to the ocean and the mountains. Shopping and reading also rates high on her list!

Clinical Technician
Jesi has been part of the eye care field for six years and enjoys building genuine connections with the patients she serves. Her favorite part of the job is getting to know patients and helping them feel comfortable and cared for during their visits. Outside of work, Jesi loves attending her kids’ sporting events and spending time with her family. At home, she stays busy with her four kids and a chocolate lab.

Office Manager
Heather serves as the Office Manager at Vintage Optical and has been with the practice for five years. She enjoys getting to know patients and takes pride in problem-solving to help ensure they have a smooth, positive experience. Heather values the relationships built in the office and works behind the scenes to keep everything running efficiently. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, doing puzzles, and spending time with family and friends. She’s also a big fan of anything football-related.

Teri is an optician with 28 years of experience and is known for her deep commitment to both patients and coworkers. She values the family-like atmosphere at Vintage Optical and takes pride in working alongside a supportive team. Teri enjoys gardening and antique shopping in her free time, combining creativity with a love of history and design. Before entering eye care, Teri explored other technical and design-focused fields, experiences that continue to inform her detail-oriented approach.

Brianna, who goes by Bri, serves as a technician at Vintage Optical. She has been in eye care for seven years and enjoys learning new things and helping patients feel relaxed during their visits. Bri values the relationships she builds with patients and coworkers and appreciates the supportive environment of the office. Outside of work, she enjoys painting, crafting, and reading. A fun fact about Bri is that she has a senior cat named Snuggle Bug who adds plenty of personality to her home.

April is often the first person patients see when they walk into Vintage Optical, welcoming them and helping them feel comfortable from the start of their visit. She enjoys building relationships with patients and getting to know them and their families. April is passionate about helping our patients feel welcomed and understood. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, being outdoors, gardening, and shopping. Her approachable personality helps create a positive experience from the very first interaction.

Clinic Supervisor
Hal is the clinic supervisor at Vintage Optical and has been in eye care for over five years, including two years with the practice. He enjoys connecting with the local community and helping patients with all of their vision needs while keeping the clinic running smoothly day to day. Hal values teamwork and takes pride in supporting both patients and staff. Outside of work, he enjoys shopping, crafting, and working on creative projects, as well as spending time with his fiancé. He is also a proud cat owner, and his cat is rarely seen without a bowtie.

Heidi especially enjoys getting to know people and supporting her teammates every day. Outside of work, she has a wide range of interests; from gardening, hiking, biking, and camping to cooking, crafting, painting, and playing board games with her family. She and her husband previously lived in South Korea as missionaries, an experience that deeply shaped her perspective and love of learning.

Angela is a certified optician and skilled lab technician with an impressive 36 years of experience in eye care. She plays a key role in the optical lab and is also experienced in contact lens instruction and removal, helping patients feel confident and comfortable with their vision solutions. Angela loves helping people see their best and values the strong camaraderie she shares with her coworkers. Outside the office, she enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, and being with family. A lifelong animal lover, Angela brings warmth and dedication to everything she does.
