Contact Lenses for Unique Vision Needs

Not all eyes are suited for standard contact lenses. If you’ve been told contacts aren’t an option, or you’ve struggled with comfort or clarity, specialty contact lenses may provide a solution.

At Vintage Optical, we offer advanced contact lens options for more complex prescriptions and unique eye conditions. These lenses are customized to your eyes, helping you achieve clear vision when traditional lenses fall short.

What Are Specialty Contact Lenses?

Specialty contact lenses are for patients who need more than a standard lens can provide. These lenses are customized to match the shape and needs of your eyes, improving vision and comfort.

They are often used to address irregular corneas, higher prescriptions, or conditions that make traditional lenses difficult to wear.

Who Can Benefit from Specialty Lenses?

Specialty lenses may be recommended if you:

  • Have been told you’re not a candidate for standard contact lenses
  • Experience discomfort with traditional lenses
  • Have keratoconus or an irregular corneal shape
  • Have dry eye that makes lens wear difficult
  • Need more precise vision correction

Scleral Contact Lenses

Scleral lenses are larger than traditional lenses and rest on the white part of the eye rather than the cornea. This design creates a smooth optical surface while maintaining a layer of moisture between the lens and the eye.

They are especially effective for patients with keratoconus, dry eye, or irregular corneas, providing improved vision and increased comfort.

Rigid Gas-Permeable (RGP) Lenses

Rigid gas-permeable lenses offer stable vision and are designed to maintain their shape on the eye. This allows for more precise vision correction, especially for patients with more complex prescriptions.

They are also commonly used in treatments like orthokeratology (ortho-k).

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) Lenses

Ortho-k lenses are worn overnight to gently reshape the surface of the eye while you sleep. By morning, your child can see clearly throughout the day, without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

This treatment not only provides daytime freedom from eyewear but also helps slow the progression of myopia. Because it works by guiding how the eye focuses light, ortho-k supports clear vision and long-term eye health.

Ortho-k is one of the most effective options for managing myopia and is a primary solution we use for many of our patients.
