Dr. Brian Sommer has been a dedicated provider of eye care in Central Illinois for decades, building lasting relationships with patients and families throughout the community. As a founding eye doctor of Vintage Optical, he has played a key role in shaping the practice into a place where patients can expect consistent, thoughtful, and reliable care.
His approach is rooted in experience, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to helping patients maintain clear, comfortable vision at every stage of life.
Education and Clinical Experience
Dr. Sommer began his optometric career after completing his clinical training with the Naval Academy in Corpus Christi, Texas. He went on to practice with Dr. Richard Voller in Pekin, Illinois, before expanding his experience in Woodstock, Illinois, where he cared for patients for seven years.
In 1995, he returned to Central Illinois and co-founded Vintage Optical, establishing a practice focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centered eye care to the Morton community.
A Legacy of Care and Service
Throughout his career, Dr. Sommer has remained actively involved in patient care and community service. In addition to his work at Vintage Optical, he has provided clinical support to the TCRC Sight Center, helping expand access to vision care services.
He is also a member of the Illinois Optometric Society and the American Optometric Association, reflecting his ongoing commitment to the profession and to maintaining high standards of care.
Outside the Office
Outside of his work, Dr. Sommer enjoys staying active and spending time with his family. He enjoys golf, hiking, and cycling, and values time with his wife, Karen, and their children, Luke and Angela.
