Dr. Paul Velting

Dr. Paul Velting is a highly experienced optometrist dedicated to helping patients achieve clear vision through personalized care. With over a decade of clinical experience, he is especially passionate about solving complex vision problems and helping patients find relief when other solutions have fallen short.

He believes vision plays a central role in everyday life and takes pride in providing care that improves how his patients see and feel.

Education and Clinical Expertise

Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dr. Velting completed his undergraduate studies at Taylor University before earning his Doctor of Optometry from the Indiana University School of Optometry.

He is board-certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease and has extensive experience in primary eye care, glaucoma management, and anterior segment eye conditions. Before joining the Morton community in 2016, he practiced in Deerfield, Illinois, where he developed a strong foundation in advanced clinical care.

Dr. Velting is particularly known for his work in dry eye therapy and specialty contact lenses, where his expertise allows him to provide solutions for patients with more complex vision needs.

Leadership, Recognition, and Contributions

Dr. Velting is a recognized leader in optometry, with a strong commitment to advancing patient care and supporting the profession.

He was honored as the 2026 Luminary Award Winner for Distinguished Practice by the American Optometric Association’s Contact Lens and Cornea Section—an award that recognizes top clinicians who have developed premier contact lens practices and contributed to mentoring others.

In addition to this recognition, he has held several leadership and academic roles, including:

  • Chair of the AOA Contact Lens and Cornea Section
  • Past Chair of the Public Health Committee for the Illinois Optometric Association
  • Adjunct Faculty for multiple optometry schools, including Indiana University, Illinois College of Optometry, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, and the University of Missouri–St. Louis

These roles reflect his dedication to both clinical excellence and the continued growth of the profession.

Committed to Patients and Community

Dr. Velting is deeply committed to his patients and the community he serves. He has participated in international eye care mission trips to Guatemala in 2012 and 2013, providing essential vision care to underserved populations in the area of Chiquimula..

Locally, he remains involved in community events and outreach, reinforcing his belief that eye care should be both accessible and impactful.

Outside the Office

Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Velting enjoys staying active and spending time with his family. He participates in a variety of sports, including basketball, soccer, golf, pickleball, tennis, and mountain biking.

He also enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors, but his greatest joy is time with his wife, Katie, and their children.
